Iran's Diplomat Responds Firmly to U.S. Assertions at UNSC Session
According to SHAHEDNEWS, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, strongly condemned the U.S. representative during a Security Council meeting for his accusations against the Islamic Republic. In response to Robert Wood, the U.S. deputy ambassador, who pointed out Tehran's missile strikes on Israel to bolster the morale of the Israeli regime, Iravani defended Iran’s actions.
He criticized the U.S. for its policies in Syria while addressing Wood's comments about Iranian retaliation for Israeli actions. During his detailed address, Iravani exercised his right to reply to the accusations from the American diplomat.
"I want to clarify that we have never initiated an attack against the Israeli regime; our actions have been purely defensive in accordance with international law," he asserted. He also denounced U.S. support for what he termed a barbaric regime that could not sustain its violent actions against Palestinians, Lebanese, and Syrians without American backing.
Iravani's response came after Wood accused Iran of portraying itself as a victim while using proxies for global attacks. Wood highlighted two missile operations against Israel since April, claiming significant civilian casualties would have occurred if those missiles hadn’t been intercepted.
However, he neglected to mention the violence and devastation inflicted by the Israeli regime, which has led to tens of thousands of civilian deaths in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria over the past year, largely supported by U.S. funding and military assistance.
In retaliation for violations of Iranian sovereignty and the targeting of resistance leaders and Iranian military personnel, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps of Iran has launched hundreds of missiles at Israeli targets in occupied territories on two separate occasions.
