SHAHEDNEWS: Hezbollah has confirmed the martyrdom of Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, the head of its Executive Council.
According to SHAHEDNEWS, The announcement was made in a statement released on Wednesday, which described his death as a result of "a brutal and aggressive Zionist airstrike."
Safieddine was anticipated to be elected as Hezbollah’s next secretary general following the assassination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike on September 27 in southern Beirut.
The statement expressed deep emotion, stating, “Sayyed Hashem has now joined his brother, our most revered and beloved martyr, Hezbollah’s Secretary-General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.” It highlighted Safieddine’s close relationship with Nasrallah, describing him as his brother, confidant, and trusted companion during challenging times.
Hezbollah’s statement praised Safieddine for his dedication to the organization and the Islamic Resistance. For many years, he successfully managed the Executive Council and its various units, staying connected to both fighters and the families of martyrs.
The group emphasized its commitment to continue the path of Resistance and jihad in honor of Safieddine and other martyrs, stating, "We pledge to our great martyr and his fellow martyrs to continue the path of Resistance and jihad until the goals of freedom and victory are achieved."
While the statement did not provide details about the timing or location of Safieddine’s assassination, Israeli officials claimed responsibility, stating they had targeted the senior Hezbollah figure in an airstrike in Beirut’s southern suburbs three weeks prior.
The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, also expressed condolences for Safieddine, recognizing his efforts to support the Palestinian cause and contribute to the resistance against occupation.
