The Pharaohs Rise Again: Inside Egypt’s Stunning New Museum

According to SHAHEDNEWS, The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is located in Giza, about two kilometres from the famous Giza pyramid complex. Dedicated to the history and civilization of ancient Egypt, the museum houses more than 100,000 artifacts dating from the Predynastic Period through the Greco-Roman era.

One of the museum’s most spectacular collections is that of King Tutankhamun. It contains 5,398 objects, bringing the young pharaoh’s treasures together in one place on an unprecedented scale. The museum also features important archaeological treasures associated with figures such as Queen Hetepheres and Yuya and Tjuyu, as well as the second solar boat of Pharaoh Khufu.

A Giant Museum Beside the Pyramids

The Grand Egyptian Museum complex covers roughly 500,000 square metres, making it an enormous cultural destination beside one of the world’s most recognizable archaeological sites.

Beyond its permanent galleries, the complex includes temporary exhibition spaces, educational facilities, a children’s museum and areas designed for large-scale and digital displays.

The idea for the museum was first proposed in 1992, while construction began in 2005. After years of development and a period of partial opening, the museum was officially inaugurated on 1 November 2025.
